Distracted Driving Awareness Month

Wayne County Sheriff Raphael Washington joined Wayne County Commissioners Raymond Basham and Alisha Bell, along with the Brownstown Township Police Department and Michigan State Police to discuss a texting and driving initiative during Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Michigan law prohibits distracted driving and can result in a $100 fine with increased penalties for recurring offenses. Last year, there were 14,236 crashes in Michigan involving a distracted driver, according to Traffic Crash Facts.
