The CJC is designed to centralize Wayne County’s criminal justice operations, housing a criminal courthouse, adult, and juvenile detention facilities, over 1,400 office spaces for various criminal justice departments and law enforcement, and a central utility plant. This comprehensive facility replaces several outdated structures, creating an integrated hub for the county’s criminal justice demands.

Inmate Fund Accounts

Funds can be deposited to an inmate’s account via the lobby kiosk, internet, and telephone. Lobby kiosks are located on the 1st floor of the Wayne County Criminal Justice Center, Administration Building near the Visitation Center.

 

Personal Visitation

Remote Video Visit Guidelines:

All personal visits shall be conducted remotely (via Video Visit) on the housing unit by using secure web-based technology via Video Visit Kiosks on each housing unit.

Inmates and visitors shall not display body parts, photos, literature, or any other items to the visitor/inmates at any time during the visit. Engaging in or encouraging nudity, flashing of body parts, or performance of lewd/vulgar activity is prohibited.

Failure to comply with these rules shall result in the suspension and/or cancellation of the visit, removal of offending visitors from visitation lists, along with disciplinary sanctions.

Video Visitation hours are between 8:00am – 10:30 am, 12:30 – 2:00 pm, and 6:00pm – 9:00pm.

 

Video Visitation Suite

The public video visitation suite, located on the 1st floor of the Wayne County Criminal Justice Center, Administration Building is intended to accommodate convenient on-site video visitation by friends, family, and professionals. The Video Visitation Suite will be open between 8:00am – 5:00pm, Monday – Friday and closed on holidays and weekends. Personal visitors must provide valid government issued identification with pictures, upon check-in at the visitation window.

Professional Visitation

All professional visits shall be conducted remotely (via Video Visit) on the housing unit using secure web-based technology; except when  the professional visitor requests an in-person visit which will be granted on a case-by-case basis and based on the availability of the designated professional visit area. Professional remote visits may be requested via attorneyvisits@waynecountymi.gov .

Inmate Property Release

Inmate property will be released Monday – Friday from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. The Inmate Property Office is closed on holidays and weekends.

Inmates must present their WCSO-ADF issued ID armband to retrieve their property during Inmate Property business hours. Inmates must also produce their WCSO-ADF ID armband when they return to pick up their belongings because they were released outside of the business hours.

Inmate property may be released to a third party after the inmate signs an official Property Release Form identifying the authorized third party. The third party must present a valid ID (Driver’s License, State ID, Passport) to pick up the inmate property.

90 Days after an inmate’s release, all property/clothing that has not been picked up, shall be destroyed, or eliminated through the escheatment process.

Proof of Incarceration

The request can be submitted via the inmate tablet, or by submitting a Proof of Incarceration Request Form. The request must include the inmate’s name, inmate number, and the period when the inmate was incarcerated. All requests will be processed on Mondays and Wednesdays between the hours of 10:00 am and 3:00 pm. The fee for the service is $10.00.

Mail

All personal mail from family and friends, such as letters, pictures, and drawings will be digitally delivered to inmates via the inmate tablets “Facility Messages” app under the free profile. Any material that is pornographic or sexually explicit/implicit, promotes disorder, ethnic intimidation, or inciting in nature will be denied. Personal mail is NOT accepted by WCSO-ADF and will be returned to the sender.

NO BOOKS, PACKAGES, CHECKS OR MONEY ORDERS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Incoming mail from lawyers, public officials, or governmental agencies, acting in their official capacity and identified by the return address on the envelope as coming from one of the noted sources will be opened and inspected in the inmate’s presence.

All senders MUST include their full name and physical address.

 

Citizen Complaint Procedure

All citizen complaints pertaining to alleged employee misconduct or negative actions shall be documented and investigated by the agency.

Complaints may be made in person, over the telephone by email, or in writing.
