THE LATEST NEWS FROM THE WCSO
Message From Sheriff Washington
Greetings, and thank you for logging onto Sheriff Connect to gain insight into the various departments, programs, and personnel of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
It is finally warm out and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind everyone to remain vigilant this summer. The Covid-19 pandemic is still out there, but we hope the downward trend of documented cases will continue. Since the start of the pandemic over two years ago, we have seen many new boaters! We want to remind everyone that a fun day out on the water can change in a second, so we want to do our best to make sure everyone is prepared. We’ll be handing out informational brochures, whistles and gun locks this boating season. Let’s have a great summer on the water! You can sign up for one of our Boating Safety Classes here.
You may have also seen our SCOUT team in recent media stories. Our SCOUT officers hit the local streets regularly! SCOUT stands for Sheriff’s Community Organized Urban Team. SCOUT officers coordinate with community leaders and neighborhood watch groups. They also speak with concerned volunteers and citizens about crimes that are occurring frequently. Are you sick of those speeders or abandoned vehicles on your street? Notice someone suspicious? I believe that community policing in our neighborhoods is vital to public safety. Having an organized team allows us to collaborate on changes that will positively impact our future. Officers cannot be everywhere at once, so we rely on a mutually beneficial interaction with our residents and business owners to keep us informed of potential or ongoing problems. Let’s solve these problems before they become bigger issues. We are so much #StrongerTogether!
And don’t forget – we are hiring! The WCSO must fill more than 100 positions ASAP, and we encourage you to reach out to anyone you know who needs work, is seeking to make a job change, or just wants to make a positive impact on the community as a leader in law enforcement. CLICK HERE for details on the process and to download application materials. I promise you; it will be the most rewarding assignment you’ve ever had!
