The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office purchased 11 G5 Fully Automatic AEDs manufactured by ZOLL Medical to carry in our patrol vehicles. Each AED will come with ZOLL’s Mobilize Rescue Compact kit, which also includes a tourniquet, chest seal, pressure dressing, quick clot and mobile phone app to help provide real-time help in guiding the deputy through CPR and other types of medical emergencies, such as severe bleeding.

“Our deputies are out on patrol 24/7, and often, first on scene. This was an opportunity to shorten the gap from when a sudden cardiac arrest victim hits the ground to when a life-saving AED could be attached while we wait for our hardworking medical professionals to arrive,” said Sheriff Raphael Washington. “Our role is to protect and serve, and we thought it was important to protect our citizens against the biggest killer, knowing we will likely be there first. We’ve purchased AEDs for some of our patrol [...]

59 names were added to the Michigan Law Enforcement Officers Memorial wall in Lansing on Saturday, July 30, and sadly, four of them were very dear to our hearts:

Commander Donafay Collins (3/25/20), Corporal Dean Savard (4/3/20), Corporal Bryant Searcy (9/2/20), and Sheriff Benny Napoleon (12/17/20). #WeShallNeverForget

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard was incredibly humbled to provide final honors to Oakland County Sheriff K-9 Eiko. It was an extreme pleasure to be in the presence of Oakland County Sheriff Deputy Bob Loken’s family once again, although it was another somber occasion. We send our deepest condolences.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office has opened a new satellite police station at 15101 Michigan Ave, Dearborn, and it’s the first of many to come! In collaboration with local police departments, we’re increasing community policing and police visibility. Sheriff’s Deputies will be at the Satellite Station intermittently throughout the week and will use it for report writing, meeting with citizens, and taking complaints. It will also be used to host various types of meetings and training as needed. Thanks to all who made this happen!

When Sheriff Washington and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office learned fallen Detroit Police Officer Loren Courts was trying to save to buy his son a car for his 16th birthday (from his partner) coming up in December, we set a team into motion to find a dealership willing to work with us in carrying out his father’s dream. The folks with Woodhaven Feldman were moved by the endeavor to pick up where Officer Courts could not continue, and wanted to donate a vehicle to his son. THANK YOU to Woodhaven Feldman, Detroit Police, Metrotech Automotive Group, Michigan Insurance & Financial Services, Joe Zago & The Carpet Guys, Warthogs Motorcycle Club, Hired Guns Motorcycle Club and Vintage Blossoms Flowers!!

Sheriff Raphael Washington and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with Michigan’s Department of Attorney General, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office and the Wayne County Executive’s Office held an Expungement Fair on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Fellowship Chapel in Detroit. The event assisted individuals in obtaining expungements for eligible misdemeanor and felony convictions and provided information to individuals seeking expungements of other eligible convictions in Wayne County.

“For most of these people, it has been a long time coming – decades for many,” said Sheriff Raphael Washington. “And some were desperate. They’ve been passed over for jobs, housing, and other opportunities, and have been judged by one mistake from long ago. Many of these folks have been trying to move on but continue to be burdened by their pasts. We hope we can help them start their new lives. I am incredibly grateful to our enthusiastic partners. The dedication and immediate willingness to [...]

Kudos to Wayne County Sheriff Sergeant Phil Migliaccio, WCSO Officer Michael Dennis, and Dearborn Heights Police Dispatch. They notified Sgt. Migliaccio and Ofc. Dennis that a 25-year-old man overdosed the afternoon of Friday, July 22, 2022, and said the man’s girlfriend was performing CPR. They responded within 4-5 minutes and administered 4 doses of Narcan. The man was taken to Garden City Hospital by Dearborn Heights Medics and is OK. Just another day on the job for some of these men and women! PS. Ofc. Dennis just graduated from the Police Academy two months ago!

Check out what our Dive Team and Marine Unit has been up to this week! They conducted dive training using what’s called Jackstay search patterns. That’s when two anchors are connected to a line and it guides the diver on the bottom of the river in order to cover a specific area. This increases our coverage of the area and our chances of recovering victims or objects underwater.

Good food, music, dancing and conversations! It was all about our seniors on Senior Friendship Day in #Detroit on Monday, July 19th! We had so much fun at the Aretha Franklin Amphitheater. Thank you to the Detroit Area Agency on Aging for having Sheriff Washington and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. The day included raffles, fitness education, health screenings and a free lunch!

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with Detroit Police, Livonia Police, Dearborn Police, and Dearborn Heights Police conducted a Mock Traffic Stop Simulation event to give newer drivers a better understanding of how to conduct themselves during a traffic stop, and in turn, foster a stronger relationship between law enforcement and the community.

TIPS:

1. Make sure the car is in park.
2. Turn radio down or off.
3. Roll down driver side window. If windows are tinted, roll all windows down.
4. Place hands on steering wheel.
5. If it’s dark outside, turn on interior light.
6. Please, no sudden moves. Always inform the Officer what you are about to do.

THANK YOU to our partners: Competition Corvette Club of Michigan and Greater Grace Temple.
