The Covid-19 pandemic has made it worse, according to the World Health Organization. Sheriff Raphael Washington visited the Detroit Area Agency on Aging for a candid conversation about elder abuse. BOAT SMART! Since the Covid-19 pandemic left so many of us stuck at home and away from family and friends, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office has, understandably, seen more and more people out on the water trying to let loose and enjoy themselves. “We’re seeing many more first-time boaters and Jet Skiers out on the water,” said Sheriff Raphael Washington. “We’re also seeing substantially more younger boaters than in years past. We all know a fun day out on the water can change in a second, so we want to do our best to make sure everyone is prepared. Sheriff Raphael Washington joined local workers, union leaders, community partners and Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist II at the Transcending: Michigan Labor Legacy Monument in Detroit’s Hart Plaza. “We honor the ones who came before us, who created laws and safety measures that could be improved upon,” said Sheriff Washington. “We recognize those who created the very measures that are in place today in so many industries. Those measures are ever-changing as life creates new obstacles, but the foundation was built strong and true. To all of those who came before us, and left us too soon, we say thank you.”
Thousands of marshmallows fell from a helicopter and hundreds of Easter eggs were hunted! Easter baskets and toys were also given away. Such a fun time in Inkster! Thank you for allowing the WCSO to be a part of this FREE, annual event. Special thanks to the Inkster Police Department, Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries, and ALL who worked so hard to make the event extra special this year! The kids loved it!
Wayne County Sheriff Raphael Washington joined Wayne County Commissioners Raymond Basham and Alisha Bell, along with the Brownstown Township Police Department and Michigan State Police to discuss a texting and driving initiative during Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Michigan law prohibits distracted driving and can result in a $100 fine with increased penalties for recurring offenses. Last year, there were 14,236 crashes in Michigan involving a distracted driver, according to Traffic Crash Facts.
Sheriff Raphael Washington and members of the WCSO joined Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries to pass out Easter baskets, toys and food in River Rouge.
